The Big Giveaway
From the Rumpke proposal. Rumpke would take control of the existing landfill and take in 50,000 tons of Holmes County trash. Problem is we don't produce 50,000 tons. After the existing landfill is fill then Rumpke gets to decide if it wants to stay or go. If they go the landfill does not get closed and we are back where we started. If they deicide to stay then they will expand the landfill and operate that for 25 to 35 years bringing out of county (and state) trash into Holmes County. In their proposal they say that this will generate 7 to 10 million dollars for the county over this period. In our estimation Rumke will bring in 700 -900 MILLION dollars. If we keep negotiating maybe we can pay them for the use of our landfill!
